Charlie entered the world two months early, spending the first two months of his life in the NICU due to a brain bleed. As Charlie grew older and required more specialized care than his parents, Michael and Beth, could provide, they embarked on a search for a nurturing environment that would truly meet his needs. It was pure serendipity when Michael joined my weekly golf foursome. A casual conversation about our careers opened a new chapter for Charlie, and Michael felt a profound sense of hope wash over him. At that time, Charlie's group home wasn't the right fit for him, and Michael and Beth felt that IGHL could offer the compassionate care and safety he deserved.
Charlie has now been a part of IGHL for more than 20 years. In his beautiful home, he is supported by a fantastic team and housemates. He spends his days at the Manorville Opportunity Center Day Habilitation Program, where he participates in daily activities and enjoys exciting outings, such as Camp Week. His love for music shines through, as he often brings his guitar along to his day habilitation program, filling the air with joy.
While Charlie thrives at IGHL, he eagerly anticipates his weekend visits with his parents. Saturdays are filled with laughter and companionship as he helps Michael and Beth with grocery shopping and taking the garbage to the transfer station. The beaming smile on his face is a heartwarming testament to the joy he finds in these moments with them.
Michael and Beth understand that fundraising is vital, as state funding alone cannot cover the comprehensive services and support necessary for their community.
We at IGHL hope that their inspiring journey encourages you to make a meaningful contribution today. Every donation, no matter the size, plays a crucial role in supporting our life-changing work and creating brighter futures for individuals like Charlie.
